Georgioupolisis a resort village and a municipality in theChania regional unit,Crete,Greece. It is located 39 kilometres east ofChania, about 23km west ofRethymnoand about 100km west ofHeraklio. It was named afterPrince George of Greece,high commissionerof the island in the last years ofOttomanoccupation.
Georgioupolis is found at the apex ofAlmiros Bayon the Sea of Crete, with Cape Drapano and its rocky coast to the north and the long sandy beaches towardsRethimnoin the east, just 20km away.
